Hello friends!
Our warm and cozy instincts rev up at the first sign of autumn. We can’t wait to pull out our comfy sweaters and revisit classic flavors (hello apples, pumpkin, cinnamon, and allspice). This applesauce oatmeal bread gives us all the flavors of fall that we crave in a quick bread.
This tender, moist quick bread is scented by cinnamon and allspice, giving a warm toasty flavor. Sweetened from both brown sugar and crisp juicy apples makes a perfect base for its crumbly oatmeal-allspice topping. Baked in a bread that strikes fall’s perfect notes of tart-sweetness and tender-crispness.
Taste of bit of fall!
For the Bread:
11/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
3 tablespoons milk
1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/4 nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup apples, peeled, cored, diced
Allspice Crumble:
5 tablespoons brown sugar
4 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
pinch of each; baking soda, baking powder
Let’s Bake!
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Lightly grease a 10″ x 5″ loaf pan.
To make the crumble: In a medium bowl, stir together all the ingredients until it resembles a crumbled mixture. Set aside.
To make the bread: In a large bowl, beat together the sugar and eggs until the mixture is thick. Beat in the oil, milk, applesauce, and vanilla.
In a separate bowl mix together the flours, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices and whisk them into the wet ingredients without overbeating.
Fold in the rolled oat and diced apples.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Spread the allspice crumble on top of the batter and gently press to adhere.
Bake the bread for 55 to 60 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove the bread from the oven, and cool completely. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if preferred.
